AND vs DNR
CPR: Cardiopulmonary
DNR: Do No Resuscitation
LST: Life Sustaining
Treatment
NLST:
No Life Sustaining Treatment
AND: Allow Natural Death
Hospice palliative medicine is not “abandoning”
of medical care. It is humanistic medical care to the last minute of life and
to allow natural death. To pursue DNR
(Do No Resuscitation) at the terminal stage is to allow natural death (AND) to
run its peaceful and dignified course. Physicians should not apply futile
extraordinary medical measures for the terminal patients. DNR sounds like
physician’s negative non-doing. Recently, AND (Allow Natural Death) was
proposed to replace DNR. Does it sound more acceptable? AND should include
no-CPR and no-LST.
