Thursday evening, the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce revealed several award recipients at its annual banquet.
Jack Wu, Vice President of Business Development at Formosa Plastics Corporation, was named Man of the Year by the Chamber. A 30-year employee of Formosa, he has lived in Calhoun County since June 1980 and was part of the original project team for Formosa’s Point Comfort plant.
“Well it is a nice surprise,” Wu said. “It feels very nice to receive this award.” Wu went on to recognize his company and the late Yung Ching Wang, founder of Formosa Plastics Group, for the roles played in his success.
Wu is a member of the board of directors for the Calhoun County Memorial Medical Center, First National Bank of Port Lavaca, Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation and Formosa Environmental Trust Fund Board of Trustees. He is also a member of the Port Lavaca Rotary Club. Wu has served as past-chairman of the Memorial Medical Center Board, past-chairman for the Red Cross Board of Directors, and has served on the United Way Board, and the Texas Chemical Council.
Wu has worked closely with the Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation in their efforts to site the Formosa $2.8 Billion USD Expansion Project in Calhoun and Jackson Counties. He continues to work actively with regional economic development efforts.
Wu and wife, Tina, are the parents of three children. His pleasures include golfing, watching movies, reading, and listening to classical music. Since taking up residency in Calhoun County, Wu has made many meaningful contributions to the area.
